Southview Middle School Hosting a Book Fair

The Southview Middle School Media Center is hosting a book fair October 15-October 22.  An amazing selection of the latest and finest books will be available for both students and parents.  The book fair will be open during parent/teacher conferences on October 16 and October 20 4:30-8:30.  It will also be open 7:45-4:00 throughout the week. AHS Dance Team Shirts Now Available

The AHS Dance Team is now selling the popular 2015 State I Heart DT t-shirts and sweatshirts. T-shirts are purple with a neon yellow heart. T-shirts $15 and Sweatshirts $25. Ordering forms are available online, in the activities office, or from any DT member! Congratulations to our Southview Musicians

Congratulations to our Southview Choir and Band members for their recent selection into prestigious honor choirs and honor bands.
The following vocal music students have been selected to participate in the 2014 Iowa Opus Honor Choir:

  • 9th Grade Mixed Choir - Grant Bielecki, Makenna Davis, Madyson Hensley, and Courtney Maire
  • 7th-8th Grade Bass Clef Choir - Tim Sindt
The following instrumental students have been selected to participate in the 2014 SCIBA Middle School Honor Band:
  • Blue Band - Kenidy Moeller, Clarinet; Marianna Elia, Alto Saxophone
  • White Band - Lauren Palkovic, Flute; Hannah Harrison, Clarinet; Shala Boardman, Alto Saxophone; Andrew Doyle, Trombone.


9-12 Grade Boys Swimming Team Meeting October 21
All 9th grade boys interested in the Boys 9-12 Swim Team are invited to a meeting on Tuesday, October 21 at 3:50 in the Ankeny High School Commons.  If you cannot attend but would still like to go out for the team, please email

Southview Middle School to Collect Winter Clothing for Ankeny Children

Winter is just around the corner and “Project Fresh Start” wants to make sure that all students in the Ankeny Community School District have coats, hats, gloves and mittens, boots and other cold weather attire. Southview would like to help with this initiative. With this in mind, we are asking that students and parents bring gently used winter clothing to Southview Middle School between October 16 and October 24.  Items may be brought during Southview conferences which are on October 16 and October 20 4:30-8:30, or 7:30-4:00 during the week. We appreciate your help so that all kids can stay warm this winter. 

Marching Hawks take two third-place honors; Best Drum Majors award:
The Ankeny Marching Hawks received two third-place finishes and rave reviews from the judges in their two debut performances in Cedar Rapids on October 4.  Student commanders Erin Miller, Breanna Stiles, and Quintin Konen won the prestigious ranking of “Best Drum Majors” at the “2014 Five Seasons Marching Band Invitational."  Read more about the competitions and the Marching Hawks

Bowling Team Meeting October 22 for 9-12 Grade

There will be a meeting for all boys and girls, grades 9-12 that are interested in joining the bowling team on Wednesday, October 22.  The meeting will be held at the high school in the career center after school.

Open MIC night Oct. 31 at Northview
Northview is hosting an Open Mic Night on Friday, October 31 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Media Center.  All Northview and Southview students are welcome to attend and encouraged to show their many unique talents!

9th Grade Girls Basketball Meeting October 23
There will be a 9th grade girls basketball meeting on Thursday, October 23 in room 1110 at 7:30 am. Anyone interested in playing basketball this winter please plan on attending this informational meeting.

This is drop-off week for the Winter Clothing Donation Drive:
This week, each of Ankeny's schools will accept clean, gently-used winter clothing to donate to Ankeny children in need.  If you have coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves or boots you would like to donate, please drop them off at your child's school.  Items will be accepted during school hours, October 20-24

The donation drive is sponsored by a new program called F.E.W.D. (Faith and Education Winter Donations), supported by Project Fresh Start through the Ankeny Community Education Department.

Purchase your "Pink Out" shirt in the AHS Activities Office:

Help Ankeny Schools raise breast cancer awareness by purchasing a "Pink Out" T-shirt!  They are now available in the AHS Activities Office for $13.  This year’s design is gray with pink lettering.  A few of last year’s design are still available for $5, pink with gray lettering.  If you have any questions, please contact the Activities Office at 963-4335.

The Community Education Department and the Ankeny Art Center are partnering to bring three art class opportunities to your child on Saturdays!  

  • Art Exploration - children in grades K-8 will create and bring home drawings, paintings, and much more.
  • Pottery Hand Building - children in grades K-4 will roll-out clay, press stamps, and create sculptures to bring home.
  • Pottery Wheel - children in grades 5-8 will learn techniques to create a bowl to be fired and taken home.

Polk County Health flu clinics scheduled at Ankeny schools:
The Ankeny Community School District is again partnering with the Polk County Health Department to provide seasonal flu vaccination clinics in Ankeny Schools October 9 and November 6. The influenza vaccination will be available to all staff and students, and will be open to the public.  Learn more about the flu clinics here.
