Southview Middle School to hold Practice Emergency Drill Thursday, August 28
Safety and security of students is a key focus of Southview Middle School. On Thursday, August 28 students and staff will take part in a lock down drill. Staff and students will test procedures in efforts to raise preparedness and awareness, and find ways to improve the system. No parent involvement is required for this exercise, but we wanted you to be aware of the drill in the event that you have any questions.

The exercise will start at 9:20 AM and is scheduled to end by 9:50 AM. Questions about the drill may be directed to Dan Meyer, at 965-9635.

Registration for the 8th Grade Washington D. C. Trip has begun!
 If you are interested in going, see your U.S. Studies teacher for the registration information ASAP. Don’t delay…the tour is already almost half full! Email Ms. Symonds with questions at

Using your Target Red Card can benefit Southview students' education
Do you shop at Target?  Do you have a Target Red Card?  If you do, Target will make a 1% donation to Southview.  It’s easy. Just click here to go to the Target flier. This will give you more details on how you can designate Southview as your school.  Target will then donate 1% every time you shop at Target when using your Target Red Card and .5% when you use your card at other establishments.  We appreciate your support in this program as well as your student’s school.   Thank you.

Get your Football T-shirt
 If you haven’t gotten your football t shirt yet, there are still plenty of opportunities.  The Football Committee will be selling them at Southview during lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 26 and August 27.  They will also sell them at Back to School night, August 25 and at the first home football game on Friday, August 29.  They are $15.00 each.  Any questions, please contact the Activities Office at AHS at 963-4335.

Interested in being a member of our Student Leadership Council?  Applications are due Friday, August 29!  You can find applications in the front office, Ms. Fieldsend’s room (1111), or Ms. Flinkman’s room (2108).  Return completed applications to any of those three places!  See Ms. Fieldsend or Ms. Flinkman with any questions. 

SV School Dance 7 to 9 Friday, Sept. 5 Tickets are $5
Come to the Southview Middle School Dance on Friday, September 5 from 7-9 p.m.  Tickets are $5 and can be purchased from the front office.  Southview and Northview students are able to attend.  

Picture Retake/Make Up Day Sept. 19
Did you miss yearbook pictures on Schedule Pick-Up Day? Students who did not have their picture taken on August 4 or 5 will have their picture taken on September 19.  Click here for a copy of the Lifetouch form or pick up one in the office to be used that day.

Do you want your picture retaken? Bring the picture package you had taken on Schedule Pick-Up day and your picture can be retaken. 

Students will be called down by intercom by grade and last name.

Lock up your Bike
Please put your bike in the bike rack and LOCK your bike up please.
Attendance Reminder for Parents

If your student is going to be absent any part of the school day please provide a hand written note which your student will turn into the front office at the beginning of the day. Your student will then be given a yellow pass to give to the teacher in order to be dismissed.

Looking for more information about the PPEL renewal vote or have questions you would like to ask?  Ankeny Schools will hold public forums in the Prairie Ridge Middle School cafeteria on August 26 at 5:00 PM and August 28 at 6:00 PM.  If you can't make one of those dates, a schedule of speaking dates to Parent-Teacher Organizations can be found here.

"An Instrument in Every Hand" seeks donations:

Do you have a band instrument collecting dust that could bring an Ankeny student the joy and benefit of music?  "An Instrument In Every Hand" is accepting donations of band instruments at any Ankeny school any time during school hours.  The program was started last year by AHS student Quinn Wilson, and has helped more than 50 students participate in the band program.  If you have any questions contact Vicky Anderson,

65+ Activity Pass
Community residents age 65 or older are reminded they are eligible for a free activity pass to Ankeny Schools home events.  Passes are honored at all Ankeny home events except for sectional, district and regional playoffs sponsored by State Associations.  If you are eligible for a pass but have not received one, please visit Beth Rasmussen at the district administration office at 306 SW School Street.   If you have questions about the pass, please call 289-3920.
